Definition of a fiber optic cable
It is manufactured to meet the performance specifications of optics, mechanics, or the environment. It is a communication cable that utilizes one or more optical fibers housed in a loose tube or a tight buffer tube as the transmission medium and can be used individually or in groups.
Types of fiber optic cable
Classified by transmission performance, distance, and purpose: it can be divided into long-distance optical cables, local optical cables, submarine optical cables, and user optical cables
Classified by type of optic fiber : it can be divided into multimode fiber optic cable and single-mode fiber optic cable
Classified according to the method of housing optical fibers : it can be divided into tight buffer fiber optic cable, loose tube fiber optic cable, mono-tube type fiber optic cable, and ribbon multi-core unit fiber optic cable
Classified by the number of fiber cores: can be divided into single core optical cables, dual core optical cables, four core optical cables, six core optical cables, eight core optical cables, twelve core optical cables, and twenty-four core optical cables, etc
Classified by installation method: Optical cables can be divided into duct optical cables, direct burial optical cables, overhead optical cables, and underwater optical cables etc.
Classified according to the configuration method of reinforcement components: optical cables can be divided into central reinforcement component optical cables, dispersed reinforcement component optical cables, protective layer reinforcement component optical cables, and PE fine steel wire composite outer protective layer optical cables with a certain number of fine steel wires added to the PE outer protective layer.
Classified by the nature of the protective layer material: Optical cables can be divided into polyethylene sheathed ordinary optical cables, polyvinyl chloride sheathed flame-retardant optical cables, and nylon ant and rodent resistant optical cables.
Classified by transmission conductor and medium condition: Optical cables can be divided into metal free optical cables, ordinary optical cables, and comprehensive optical cables.
Classification by structure: optical cables can be divided into flat structure optical cables, layer twisted structure optical cables, skeleton structure optical cables, armored structure optical cables and high-density micro optical cables.
Main features of each type fiber optic cable
The layered fiber optic cable structure is composed of multiple secondary coated optical fibers with loose or tight buffer tubes wrapped around a central metal reinforcement component or an FRP to form a round cable core. The cable core is first longitudinally wrapped with composite aluminum tape and extruded with a polyethylene inner sheath, and then longitudinally wrapped with water blocking tape and double-sided film coated corrugated steel (aluminum) tape, plus a layer of polyethylene outer protective layer. Buried fiber optic cables also have an additional protection layer.
The number of optical fibers contained in the layer twisted fiber optic cable is large, and the excess length of the optical fibers in the cable is easy to control; The mechanical and environmental performance of optical cables is good, suitable for direct burial, pipelines, and overhead. The disadvantages of the layered twisted fiber optic cable structure are that the cable structure and process equipment are complex, the production process is more, and the material consumption is higher.
Twist the fiber optic cable tightly or loosely around the central reinforcement, fix it with a wrapping method, and then use a bonding protective layer as a protective layer according to different installation requirements such as pipelines, overhead or direct burial. Buried optical cables required an additional armor layer.
